An Ontological Approach for Querying Distributed Heterogeneous Information Systems Under Critical Operational Environments

چکیده
In this paper, we propose an information exchange framework suited for operating in time-critical environments where diverse heterogeneous sources may be involved. We utilize a request-response type of communication in order to eliminate the need for local collection of distributed information. We then introduce an ontological knowledge representation with a semantic reasoner that operates on an aggregated view of the knowledge sources to generate a response and a semantic proof. A prototype of the system is demonstrated in two example emergency health care scenarios, where there is low tolerance for inaccuracy and the use of diverse sources is required, not all of which may be known to the individual generating the request. The system is contrasted with conventional machine learning approaches and existing work in semantic data mining (used to infer knowledge in order to provide responses), and is shown to o er theoretical and practical advantages over these conventional techniques.

An Ontological Approach for Querying Distributed Heterogeneous Information Systems 76-88
In this paper, we propose a decision making framework suited for knowledge and time constrained operational environments. We draw our motivation from the observation that large knowledge repositories are distributed over heterogeneous information management systems. This makes it di cult for a user to aggregate and process all relevant information to make the best decision possible. Our propose...
متن کاملDynamic Process Integration Framework: Toward Efficient Information Processing in Complex Distributed Systems
The Dynamic Process Integration Framework (DPIF) is a service oriented approach which supports efficient creation of distributed systems for collaborative reasoning. The DPIF is relevant for an important class of contemporary applications requiring efficient and reliable processing of large quantities of heterogeneous information. An example of such an application is situation assessment in com...
متن کاملTowards operational risk-aware information systems: A critical realist perspective
Following calls to enhance risk-sensitivity of second generation Operational Risk-Aware Information Systems (ORISs), this paper aims to address the lack of ontological/epistemological grounding for the concept of Operational Risk (OR). Herein, OR is regarded both as a property of a real system and as a representational phenomenon forming part of the core of ORIS in line with Weber’s (2003) view...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملDistributed Instance Retrieval in Heterogeneous Ontologies
The problem of ontology querying is of a crucial importance for a practically usable semantic web. Recent research in standard Description Logics has produced a number of algorithms and implementations for reasoning with instances for answering ontological queries. In this work, we extend these techniques to enable a querying of distributed heterogeneous ontologies with heterogeneous population...
